Vinyl chloroacetate (VCA) CAS 2549-51-1
Vinyl chloroacetate (VCA) is a reactive vinyl ester bearing a chloroacetyl functionality. It is supplied as a clear, colorless liquid and is used as a building block for vinyl polymer modification, glycidyl and epoxide precursors, alkylation/acylation chemistry and specialty fine-chemical synthesis. VCA is moisture-sensitive and reactive toward nucleophiles; handle under controlled, anhydrous conditions with appropriate engineering and personal-protection measures.
Applications
- Polymer modification and vinyl chemistry
Used as a comonomer or modification reagent to introduce reactive chloroacetate functionality into vinyl polymers and copolymers for later functionalization. - Glycidyl / epoxide precursor
Converted to glycidyl or epoxide derivatives via intramolecular cyclization or base-promoted transformations for resin and specialty-monomer manufacture. - Alkylation / acylation synthon
Employed as an electrophile in substitution and alkylation steps to install chloroacetyl groups in agrochemical and pharmaceutical intermediate syntheses. - Adduct and crosslinker intermediate
Used to prepare crosslinkable adducts, surface-reactive monomers and specialty crosslinkers for coatings and adhesives. - Analytical reagent and research
Supplied as a reagent for method development, structure-activity work and small-scale synthetic exploration.
