Product Description

Triphosgene (bis(trichloromethyl) carbonate, CAS 32315-10-9) is a crystalline, solid carbonyl-transfer reagent widely used in organic synthesis as a convenient, transportable phosgene equivalent for laboratory and industrial reagent applications. It is supplied in defined reagent grades and released with lot-specific Certificates of Analysis (COA) and Safety Data Sheets (SDS).

Application

  • Reagent for carbonylation and carbonyl-transfer chemistry
Used as a solid phosgene equivalent in laboratory and process chemistry for carbonylation-type transformations (general reagent use).
  • Formation of acid chlorides / chloroformates (as reagent class)
Used as a convenient reagent in processes where chlorocarbonyl transfer reagents are employed.
  • Isocyanate and urethane precursor chemistry (industrial / research contexts)
Employed in controlled syntheses where chlorocarbonyl transfer is required for downstream intermediates.
  • Laboratory / analytical reagent
Provided as a packaged reagent for research, method development and analytical laboratories.
  • Specialty industrial synthesis (select applications)
Used selectively in manufacturing routes where a solid phosgene equivalent is specified by process chemistry.

Storage & handling

  • Storage: store sealed in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area; many suppliers recommend refrigerated storage (0–10 °C) and storage under inert gas to minimize decomposition.

  • Sensitivity: moisture-, heat- and light-sensitive; protect from contact with strong bases and oxidizers.

  • Handling: use local exhaust ventilation, avoid dust/aerosol generation, and practice strict containment when transferring or weighing.

  • Safety documentation: follow SDS instructions for PPE, spill response and emergency measures.
(Consult the lot SDS/COA for supplier-specific storage recommendations.)
