Product Description

Product Introduction

Tetramethyl Orthosilicate (also called Tetramethoxysilane, TMOS; CAS 681-84-5) is a volatile, low-viscosity organosilicon compound with the formula Si(OCH₃)₄
It hydrolyzes in the presence of moisture to produce silica (SiO₂), making it a key precursor in sol-gel synthesis, silica coating, and silica-based materials
Due to its reactivity and low molecular weight, TMOS is used in the fabrication of high-purity silica materials, optical coatings, adhesives, and as a crosslinking agent in organosilicon chemistry

Applications & Descriptions

  1. Sol-gel Precursors for Silica Materials
TMOS is used to produce silica gels, porous silica, and thin silica films via sol–gel processes

  2. Surface Coatings & Glass Treatment
Employed in coating applications to deposit silica layers on surfaces (optical, electronic) and as a crosslinking/capping agent

  3. Binders / Adhesives in Organosilicon Chemistry
Acts as a crosslinker or binder in silicone-based adhesives, sealants, and composite materials

  4. High-Purity Silica for Electronics / Optics
Used in the production of high-purity silica for semiconductor, optical fiber, and advanced materials

  5. Analytical / Laboratory Reagent
Used in research for material synthesis, as a standard reagent, and in silicon-based chemical reactions
