Product introduction
Styrene (vinylbenzene; CAS 100-42-5) is a volatile, flammable aromatic monomer supplied commercially in polymer-grade and technical grades. It is the primary monomer for manufacturing polystyrene, styrene-acrylonitrile (SAN), acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS), styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) and is used as the reactive diluent in unsaturated polyester resins (UPR), gelcoats and a range of thermoset and coating chemistries. Product is offered in stabilized formulations (with polymerization inhibitors) and inhibitor-free grades for immediate polymerisation feed; request lot-specific Certificate of Analysis (CoA) and Safety Data Sheet (SDS) prior to qualification.
Applications & Descriptions
-
Polystyrene Production
Styrene is polymerized (bulk, suspension or solution) to produce polystyrene and its modified grades used in packaging, insulation, consumer goods and engineering applications. -
ABS / SAN Copolymer Manufacture
Used as the styrenic component in ABS and SAN copolymers to balance toughness, impact resistance and surface aesthetics for automotive, appliance and electronic housings. -
Unsaturated Polyester Resins (UPR) & Gelcoats
Acts as the reactive diluent and crosslinking monomer for unsaturated polyester resins and gelcoats in composites, marine coatings and castings; participates in free-radical curing to form the thermoset network. -
Styrene-Butadiene Rubber (SBR) & Latex
Employed in emulsion and solution polymerizations to produce SBR latices and elastomers for tires, footwear and industrial goods where styrenic content tailors physical properties. -
Coatings, Adhesives & Inks (Reactive/ Solvent Uses)
Used as a reactive solvent or monomer in specialty coatings, inks and adhesive formulations where styrenic polymerisation is integrated into the cured matrix. -
Chemical Intermediate & Specialty Monomer Uses
Feedstock for alkylation, copolymerizations and functional monomer syntheses; used for production of ethylbenzene (via hydrogenation reversal), and in downstream chemistry following regulatory and safety controls.
