Product Introduction
Sodium Nitrate (CAS 7631-99-4), with the chemical formula NaNO3, is an inorganic alkali metal nitrate salt. It appears as a white, deliquescent crystalline solid or granular powder. Known historically as Chile Saltpeter, Sodium Nitrate (CAS 7631-99-4) is a powerful oxidizing agent and a key source of nitrogen. It is extensively used in industrial processes ranging from the production of high-durability glass and explosives to advanced renewable energy storage systems and food curing applications.

Applications
Glass and Enamel Manufacturing Used as a fining agent to remove bubbles and as an oxidizing agent in the production of high-quality glass, including industrial glass and ceramic glazes.
Solar Thermal Energy Storage A critical component in molten salt mixtures (typically 60% NaNO3 and 40% KNO3) used as heat transfer fluids and for thermal energy storage in Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) plants.
Metal Treatment and Surface Finishing Employed in metal pickling, cleaning, and blackening processes, as well as in the formulation of flux for metal casting and welding.
Food Preservation Used as a preservative and color fixative in cured meats and fish (Food Grade E251), effectively inhibiting the growth of bacteria.
Explosives and Pyrotechnics Functions as a reliable oxidizer in the production of specialized explosives, industrial blasting agents, and signal flares.
Agriculture Serves as a high-efficiency, fast-acting nitrogen fertilizer, particularly beneficial for tobacco, beets, and other high-value crops in certain soil conditions.
Packaging
Standard industrial packaging options for Sodium Nitrate include:
-
25kg or 50kg woven PP bags with double-layer PE inner liners (Standard export packaging).
-
1000kg or 1200kg Jumbo bags (FIBC) for large-scale industrial charging.
-
Moisture-proof and UV-protected packaging is available to prevent deliquescence during maritime transit.
-
All containers are labeled as Oxidizer (Class 5.1) in accordance with UN transportation standards.
Storage
Sodium Nitrate is a strong oxidizer and is slightly deliquescent (absorbs moisture from the air). It must be stored in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated warehouse. Keep away from heat, sparks, open flames, and combustible materials. Store separately from reducing agents, strong acids, organic matter, and metal powders to avoid hazardous reactions. Ensure packaging remains intact to prevent moisture absorption. Properly stored, it has a shelf life of 24 months.
