Sodium metasilicate (Na₂SiO₃) CAS 6834-92-0
Sodium metasilicate is a white, hygroscopic, highly water-soluble inorganic silicate supplied as an anhydrous powder or hydrates (commercial grades range from anhydrous to pentahydrate forms). It produces strongly alkaline aqueous solutions used across detergency, metal treatment, corrosion inhibition, cementitious admixtures and as a raw material/intermediate in silicate chemistry. Handle as an alkaline, corrosive solid; protect from moisture uptake in storage and shipping.
Applications
-
Detergents & cleaning agents
Sodium metasilicate is used as an alkaline builder, grease-cutting aid and anti-corrosive ingredient in laundry, industrial cleaners and metal degreasing formulations. -
Water treatment & corrosion control
Used to adjust alkalinity, inhibit corrosion in closed systems and to stabilize silicate films on metal surfaces. -
Construction & cement admixtures
Applied as a setting accelerator, alkali activator or dispersant component in cement, mortar and concrete admixture systems. -
Adhesives & binders
Serves as a silicate binder precursor in inorganic adhesives, paper-sizing systems and refractory binders. -
Silicate chemistry & intermediate
Employed as feedstock for silicate ester synthesis, zeolite precursors, silica gels and other silicon-based materials.
