Product Description

Product introduction

Pyromellitic Dianhydride (PMDA) (benzene-1,2,4,5-tetracarboxylic dianhydride; CAS 89-32-7) is a highly functional aromatic dianhydride supplied commercially as a white to off-white crystalline powder. PMDA is a principal tetracarboxylic dianhydride for the manufacture of high-performance polyimides and is widely used as a monomeric building block and crosslinker in high-temperature resins, adhesives and electronic materials. Request lot-specific Certificate of Analysis (CoA) and Safety Data Sheet (SDS) before qualification.

Applications & Descriptions

  • Polyimide Monomer (High-Temperature Polymers)
Used as a tetracarboxylic dianhydride monomer in polycondensation with aromatic diamines to produce high-performance polyimides (films, fibers, coatings) characterized by exceptional thermal stability and mechanical properties.

  • Epoxy / Thermoset Crosslinker
Employed as a reactive anhydride curing agent or co-anhydride to increase crosslink density and thermal performance of epoxy and other thermoset systems for electronic encapsulants and adhesives.

  • Adhesives For High-Temperature Service
Used in specialty adhesive formulations (structural adhesives, composite bonding) where elevated glass-transition temperature and long-term thermal stability are required.

  • Electronic And Dielectric Materials
Incorporated into polyimide formulations and precursor resins for flexible printed circuits, insulating films, and high-temperature electronic substrates.

  • Composite Matrix And Prepreg Chemistry
Used in prepreg and composite resin systems to improve thermal and oxidative resistance of aerospace and industrial composite assemblies.

  • Specialty Chemical Intermediate
Utilized in laboratory and pilot chemistry as a building block for tailored anhydride chemistries, crosslinkers and networked thermosets.
