Phenyl chloroformate (PCF) CAS 1885-14-9
Phenyl chloroformate is an acyl (chloroformate) reagent used industrially and in laboratories to introduce phenyl carbonate functionality, to prepare phenyl chloroformate-derived carbonates, for peptide coupling/activation strategies and for synthesis of urethanes, carbamates and carbonate esters. It is a moisture-sensitive, reactive liquid that hydrolyzes on contact with water releasing HCl; handle under anhydrous conditions with appropriate engineering controls and PPE.
Applications
- Phenyl carbonate / carbonate installation
Used to introduce the phenyl carbonate protecting group or to form carbonate linkages in specialty synthesis and polymer chemistry. - Peptide coupling & activation
Applied as an activating reagent in selected peptide-coupling strategies and carbamate/urethane formation workflows. - Urethane / carbamate synthesis
Employed to prepare carbamate and urethane derivatives by reaction with amines and alcohols under controlled conditions. - Organic synthesis intermediate
Used broadly as an acylating/chloroformylating reagent for construction of complex small molecules and functionalized intermediates. - Analytical reagent and standards
Supplied as a reagent for method development and as a reference standard in laboratories handling chloroformate chemistry.
