Product introduction
Hypophosphorous acid (IUPAC: phosphinic acid; empirical formula H₃PO₂; CAS 6303-21-5) is supplied commercially primarily as aqueous solutions (various concentrations) or technical liquids. It serves as a selective inorganic reducing agent and as the acid parent for hypophosphite salts used in electroless metal deposition. Commercial grades are delivered with lot-specific Certificates of Analysis (CoA) and Safety Data Sheets (SDS); select the concentration and grade appropriate to the downstream process.
Applications & Descriptions
-
Electroless Plating
Used (or converted to hypophosphite salts) as the reducing agent in electroless nickel-phosphorus deposition baths and related autocatalytic metal-deposition processes. -
Chemical Reducing Agent
Employed as a selective inorganic reductant in specialty syntheses and laboratory-scale reduction steps where controlled reduction is required. -
Stabiliser & Polymer Chemistry
Applied in some formulations as a reducing or stabilising additive in polymer and specialty-chemical processes (evaluate compatibility per formulation). -
Intermediate For Hypophosphite Salts
Processed to produce hypophosphite salts (e.g., sodium hypophosphite) that are widely used in plating baths and industrial chemistry. -
Analytical / Reagent Use
Supplied as a reagent for analytical methods, small-scale research and method development requiring phosphorus(III) reductants. -
Corrosion-Related Additive Chemistry
Used as a building block in the synthesis of certain corrosion inhibitor chemistries and specialty additives (assess material and regulatory suitability).
