Product introduction
Hydroquinone (benzene-1,4-diol; CAS 123-31-9) is a crystalline aromatic diol supplied in technical and reagent grades. It is widely used as a polymerisation inhibitor and radical scavenger during monomer storage and handling, as an antioxidant/stabiliser in plastics and rubber compounding, and as a building block for specialty chemical synthesis and redox applications. Commercial material is supplied as white to slightly yellow crystalline flakes or powder; purchasers should request lot-specific Certificate of Analysis (CoA) and Safety Data Sheet (SDS) prior to qualification.
Applications & Descriptions
-
Polymerisation Inhibitor
Used to stabilise monomers (e.g., styrene, acrylates, vinyl compounds) during storage and handling by scavenging free radicals and preventing premature polymerisation. -
Antioxidant / Plastic And Rubber Stabiliser
Incorporated into polymer formulations and processing streams as an antioxidant and stabiliser to retard oxidative degradation during melt processing and in-service ageing. -
Chemical Intermediate
Serves as a building block in the synthesis of quinones, dyestuff intermediates, photographic chemicals, corrosion inhibitors and other specialty organic molecules. -
Electrochemical And Redox Applications
Used in small-scale redox chemistries, electrochemical studies and as a reversible redox mediator in select laboratory-scale applications. -
Laboratory Reagent & Analytical Standard
Supplied as a reagent for analytical methods, calibration standards and method development in R&D and QC laboratories.
