Hexamethylenediamine (HMDA) is a linear aliphatic diamine (H₂N–(CH₂)₆–NH₂) used as a core building block in polymer and specialty-chemical manufacture. Its principal commercial role is as the diamine monomer for nylon-6,6 production; it is also used as an intermediate for specialty amines, curing agents and corrosion-inhibitor chemistries.
Application
- Nylon-6,6 monomer production
Principal feedstock diamine for condensation with adipic acid to produce hexamethylene diamide (nylon-6,6) polymer resins. - Polyamide intermediates and engineering plastics
Intermediate for a range of specialty polyamides, copolymers and engineering-plastic syntheses. - Epoxy curing agents and curing accelerators
Used as a curing agent or co-curative in epoxy and thermoset systems to improve crosslink density and mechanical performance. - Chemical intermediate for surfactants & additives
Building block for syntheses of surfactant amines, corrosion inhibitors and other specialty additives. - Water-treatment and corrosion-inhibitor precursors
Precursor for amine-based corrosion inhibitors and chelating agents used in industrial water-treatment formulations. - Analytical and laboratory reagent
High-purity small packs for R&D, analytical standards and method development.
