Hexachloroethane CAS 67-72-1
Hexachloroethane is a fully chlorinated ethane (C₂Cl₆) supplied as colorless crystalline solid. It is used as a chlorination/chlorinating reagent, smoke and pyrotechnic formulation component, metal deoxidizer and intermediate in specialty organic and inorganic syntheses. Hexachloroethane exhibits low water solubility and typical chlorinated-organic chemical behavior; handle per SDS and site EHS procedures.
Applications
- Chlorinating reagent and intermediate
Used as a chlorinated feedstock and reagent in specialty chlorination chemistries and organic transformations. - Pyrotechnic and smoke formulations
Employed in selected pyrotechnic and smoke compositions where hexachloroethane’s combustion products impart specific characteristics. - Metal deoxidation and descaling
Used in metal treatment processes as a deoxidizer and processing aid in specialty metallurgy operations. - Additive for specialty coatings and lubricants
Used as an additive intermediate in formulations requiring chlorinated components for performance tuning. - Analytical standard and research reagent
Supplied for analytical method development, reference standards and academic/industrial research into chlorinated organics.
