Product introduction
Ethyl acrylate (ethyl propenoate; CAS 140-88-5) is a clear, colourless to pale-yellow liquid acrylic ester monomer supplied commercially as stabilized technical and polymer-grade material. It is a reactive vinyl monomer used extensively in the production of homopolymers and copolymers—notably emulsion polymers, adhesives, coatings and specialty acrylate esters. Typical commercial offerings are shipped with polymerisation inhibitors (e.g., MEHQ) and are accompanied by lot-specific Certificate of Analysis (CoA) and Safety Data Sheet (SDS).
Applications & Descriptions
-
Emulsion Polymers (Coatings & Paints)
Used as a comonomer in acrylic emulsions to deliver film flexibility, adhesion and weathering resistance in waterborne paints, wood coatings and textile finishes. -
Pressure-Sensitive Adhesives & Construction Adhesives
Employed to produce tacky, cohesive acrylic adhesives and PSA formulations where ethyl acrylate units contribute low-temperature tack and peel performance. -
Acrylic Esters & Specialty Monomers
Serves as a feedstock for transesterification and copolymerisation routes that produce specialty acrylates and functional monomers for tailored polymer properties. -
Textile, Leather & Paper Coatings
Used in polymer systems that provide softness, abrasion resistance and binding for textile finishing, leather coatings and paper surface treatments. -
Chemical Intermediate (Flavor/Fragrance Precursors & Solvents)
Reacted to form propionate esters and other intermediates used in downstream specialty chemical production (use of finished fragrance products is subject to regulatory controls). -
Laboratory Reagent & R&D Monomer
Supplied as a reagent-grade monomer for laboratory polymerisation studies, method development and small-scale synthesis of acrylate-based materials.
