Dimethyl sulfate (DMS) CAS 77-78-1
Dimethyl sulfate (DMS) is a highly reactive methylating agent used primarily as an industrial reagent and intermediate in organic synthesis for producing methylated derivatives and specialty chemical intermediates. It is supplied in technical and reagent grades. DMS is highly toxic and corrosive; handle only with appropriate engineering controls and PPE and accept material only with supplier batch COA and SDS.
- Applications
Methylation reagent
Used industrially as a methylating agent for O-, N- and S-methylation in the manufacture of fine chemicals, dyes and intermediates. - Intermediate for specialty chemicals
Serves as a feedstock for production of methylated intermediates used in agrochemicals, dyes, pharmaceuticals and specialty organics. - Analytical reagent
Used in controlled analytical methods and reagent preparations where methylation is required for derivatization. - Industrial synthesis (selected processes)
Employed selectively in manufacturing processes where alternative, safer methylating reagents are unsuitable; usage is governed by strict engineering and EHS controls.
