Dibutyltin dilaurate (DBTDL, CAS 77-58-7) is an organotin compound widely applied as a catalyst in urethane and silicone cure systems, transesterification and other condensation reactions, and as a performance additive in polymer processing. Commercial material is supplied in defined purity grades for formulation, process and industrial use.
Storage & handling
Store in original, tightly closed containers in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from heat and incompatible materials.
Protect from strong oxidizers and acids; avoid prolonged exposure above normal ambient temperatures (store below ~30 °C where recommended).
Handling controls include closed transfer, local exhaust ventilation, splash protection and appropriate gloves; follow the lot SDS for detailed PPE, spill response and emergency instructions.
Application
- Catalyst for polyurethane and polyurea systems
Acts as a tin-based catalyst to accelerate isocyanate–polyol curing reactions and modify cure profile in PU systems. - Catalyst for silicone RTV and condensation cure
Used to promote room-temperature vulcanization and condensation cures in silicone formulations. - Transesterification and esterification catalyst
Applied in polyester synthesis, transesterification and polyester modification as a catalyst for ester interchange reactions. - PVC and polymer stabilizer additive
Functions as a processing aid or stabilizer component in select polymer compounding applications. - Adhesives and coatings cure catalyst
Used to optimize cure kinetics in specialty adhesives, sealants and coating systems. - Intermediate and specialty chemical manufacturing
Used as a reagent or catalyst in specialty syntheses where organotin catalysis is specified.
