Butyl Methacrylate is a methacrylate ester monomer featuring an n-butyl side chain. It is used to reduce glass transition temperature, increase flexibility and improve weatherability when copolymerized into acrylic emulsions, solution and bulk polymers. Commercial grades are delivered with inhibitor management and COA to support polymerization and formulation processes.
Applications
-
Acrylic resins & copolymers
Used as a comonomer to lower Tg and increase flexibility, durability and hydrophobicity in acrylic copolymers. -
Coatings & paints
Reactive monomer or diluent for decorative, protective and UV-curable coatings to improve film flexibility and weather resistance. -
Adhesives & sealants
Feedstock in pressure-sensitive and structural acrylate adhesives to balance tack, cohesion and elongation. -
UV / radical curable systems
Reactive diluent and co-monomer in UV/EB formulations to tune cure behavior and final film properties. -
Casting & molding compounds
Used in cast acrylic and molding resins to adjust mechanical properties and processability. -
Specialty functional polymers
Monomer for hydrophobic or low-Tg segments in grafts, block copolymers and surface-modified polymers. -
Laboratory & R&D reagent
Small-pack reagent for polymer research, pilot copolymerisation and analytical development.
