Product introduction
Butyl acrylate (n-butyl acrylate; CAS 141-32-2) is the butyl ester of acrylic acid supplied commercially as a clear, colourless to pale-yellow liquid with a characteristic fruity/ester odour. It is a reactive vinyl monomer used widely to produce homopolymers and copolymers — notably emulsion polymers, pressure-sensitive adhesives (PSA), coatings, textile finishes and specialty acrylic resins. Commercial material is normally shipped with polymerisation inhibitors; request lot Certificate of Analysis (CoA) and Safety Data Sheet (SDS) prior to qualification.
Applications & Descriptions
-
Emulsion Polymers (Coatings & Paints)
Used as a comonomer in acrylic emulsions to impart flexibility, adhesion and weathering resistance in water-borne paints, wood coatings and textile finishes. -
Adhesives & Pressure-Sensitive Adhesives (PSA)
Provides low-Tg soft segments in PSA and construction adhesive formulations, contributing tack and peel performance when copolymerised with higher-Tg monomers. -
Sealants & Caulks
Used in latex and solventborne sealant systems to improve elasticity, adhesion and low-temperature performance. -
Textile, Leather & Paper Finishes
Employed in polymer systems that deliver softness, abrasion resistance and binding properties for textile finishing, leather coatings and paper surface treatments. -
Specialty Acrylic Resins & Modifiers
Feedstock for acrylic esters and specialty copolymers tailored for rheology modifiers, binders and dispersants in industrial formulations. -
Laboratory Reagent & R&D Monomer
Supplied for research polymerisations, method development and small-scale synthesis where reproducible monomer quality is required.
