Azodicarbonamide (ADC) CAS 123-77-3
Azodicarbonamide (ADC) is an organic azo compound supplied as a pale yellow to orange crystalline powder. It is principally used as a chemical blowing/foaming agent in plastics, rubber and PVC processing, and as a thermal radical source in select polymerization and crosslinking processes. ADC decomposes on heating to deliver gaseous products that create cellular structure in thermoplastics and elastomers; handle under controlled conditions with appropriate process controls and PPE.
Applications
-
Chemical blowing/foaming agent
ADC is widely used to generate gas during thermal processing to produce closed- or open-cell foams in PVC, PU, EVA, PE and other thermoplastic/elastomeric matrices. -
Rubber and elastomer processing
Used to create cellular rubber goods, gaskets and foamed elastomer components where controlled cell structure is required. -
Polymerization / crosslinking initiator
Employed in select formulations as a thermal radical source for crosslinking, grafting and polymer modification under defined thermal profiles. -
Masterbatches and compounding
Supplied as part of masterbatch concentrates (ADC + stabilizers/release-control agents) for consistent dosing and dispersion in industrial compounding. -
Laboratory reagent & research
Used in lab-scale studies of thermal decomposition kinetics, foam morphology development and controlled radical chemistry.
