Product introduction
Acrylamide (IUPAC: propenamide; CAS 79-06-1) is a white crystalline vinylamide monomer widely used as the principal feedstock to produce polyacrylamide (PAM) and related copolymers. These polymers serve as flocculants and coagulants in water treatment, as rheology modifiers and as crosslinkable components in adhesives, grouts and specialty formulations. Acrylamide is supplied in technical and reagent grades; purchasers should request lot-specific Certificates of Analysis (CoA) and Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for grade confirmation and regulatory compliance.
Applications & Descriptions
-
Polyacrylamide (PAM) Manufacture
Used as the monomer feedstock for homopolymer and copolymer production (PAM) applied in water-treatment flocculants, sludge dewatering agents and industrial clarification systems. -
Water Treatment & Flocculation
Converted to anionic, cationic or non-ionic PAM grades that function as primary flocculants and coagulant aids in municipal and industrial wastewater treatment and potable-water clarification. -
Electrophoresis & Laboratory Gels
Polymerised (with crosslinkers) to form polyacrylamide gels for electrophoretic separations (PAGE) and other analytical/research applications; reagent-grade monomer is specified for analytical use. -
Grouts, Soil Stabilisation & Construction
Used in polymer grouts, soil-conditioning agents and injection chemistries where in-situ polymerisation or crosslinking imparts consolidation and reduced permeability. -
Oilfield & Enhanced Oil Recovery Additives
Converted into high-molecular-weight PAM or partially hydrolysed PAM grades used for mobility control, polymer flooding and conformance control in oilfield applications. -
Adhesives, Coatings & Specialty Polymers
Applied as a monomer or co-monomer to produce adhesives, binder resins, coating modifiers and superabsorbent precursors where strong hydrophilicity or crosslinkable amide functionality is required. -
Chemical Intermediate & Research Reagent
Serves as an intermediate in specialty syntheses and as a reagent in laboratory-scale polymer chemistry and method development.
