2,2′-Azobis(2,4-dimethyl)valeronitrile CAS 4419-11-8
2,2′-Azobis(2,4-dimethyl)valeronitrile is an organic azo-type thermal radical initiator supplied as a solid (powder). It decomposes thermally to generate carbon-centered radicals and is used to initiate free-radical polymerizations, crosslinking reactions and grafting processes where controlled radical generation and specific decomposition temperatures are required. Handle under inert, moisture-controlled conditions and follow SDS guidance for thermal and handling hazards.
Applications
- Free-radical polymerization initiator
Used to initiate bulk, solution and suspension polymerizations of vinyl monomers and specialty monomers under controlled thermal conditions. - Crosslinking and curing
Employed as thermal initiator for crosslinking of polymer systems (e.g., coatings, adhesives, elastomers) where a defined temperature-dependent radical source is required. - Graft polymerization and surface modification
Used for grafting functional monomers onto polymer backbones or substrates to modify surface properties and adhesion. - Laboratory reagent and method development
Supplied for research, QC and pilot-scale method development where controlled radical generation is needed.
