Product Description

Product Introduction

2-Ethoxyethanol (CAS 110-80-5), widely known as Ethyl Cellosolve or EGEE, is a clear, colorless, nearly odorless liquid. Its molecular formula is C4H10O2 (or CH3CH2OCH2CH2OH). As a member of the glycol ether family, it possesses the unique chemical property of containing both an ether and an alcohol functional group in a single molecule. This dual nature allows it to dissolve both water-soluble and oil-soluble substances, making it a critical component in the coatings, textile, and cleaning industries.

Applications

Paint & Coatings Extensively used as a solvent in nitrocellulose lacquers, varnishes, and enamels. It helps in achieving a smooth film formation and excellent gloss.

Printing Inks Used in the formulation of high-quality printing inks, particularly in flexographic and gravure inks where a controlled drying rate is required.

Dyes & Textiles Acts as a solvent and penetrating agent for spirit-soluble dyes and in the dyeing/printing of textiles to ensure uniform color distribution.

Chemical Synthesis Serves as an intermediate in the production of 2-Ethoxyethyl acetate and other specialized organic chemicals.

Packaging & Storage

  • Packaging: 190kg UN-certified steel drums, IBC tanks, or stainless steel ISO tanks.

Storage: Store in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated hazardous materials warehouse. Keep away from heat, sparks, and open flames. Use explosion-proof equipment. Containers must be tightly sealed as the product is flammable and can form peroxides if stored improperly for long periods.

1. Feature: Dual Solubility Profile (Hydrophilic & Lipophilic)

  • Advantage: Miscible with water and a wide range of organic solvents (oils, resins, waxes).

  • Benefit: Universal Solvent: Simplifies formulations by acting as a powerful coupling agent for multi-phase chemical systems.

2. Feature: Optimized Evaporation Rate

  • Advantage: Slower evaporation compared to Methyl Cellosolve, providing better flow and leveling.

  • Benefit: Enhanced Finish: Prevents surface defects like “orange peel” in coatings and ensures high-quality, glossy finishes in paints.

3. Feature: High Purity (≥ 99.5%) & Low Acidity

  • Advantage: Minimal impurities ensure it does not interfere with delicate chemical reactions or sensitive pigments.

  • Benefit: Consistent Quality: Ideal for high-end industrial applications where chemical stability and color retention are critical.

4. Feature: Strong Resin Dissolving Power

  • Advantage: Effectively dissolves nitrocellulose, natural resins, and synthetic polymers.

  • Benefit: Efficient Processing: Reduces the volume of solvent required in ink and lacquer production, lowering overall manufacturing costs.
