Product introduction
2-Butoxyethanol (IUPAC: 2-(Butoxy)ethanol; common name butyl cellosolve; CAS 111-76-2) is a clear, colourless to pale-yellow solvent with balanced solvency for a wide range of organic resins, oils and polar additives. It is widely used as a formulation solvent and co-solvent in industrial coatings, inks, metal-cleaning fluids, surface cleaners, textile treatments and agrochemical formulations. Commercial grades are supplied with lot-specific Certificates of Analysis (CoA) and Safety Data Sheets (SDS); select grade and packaging appropriate to the intended process and regulatory requirements.
Applications & Descriptions
-
Coatings & Paints
Used as a co-solvent in solventborne and some specialty waterborne coatings and formulations to improve solvency, flow and film formation. -
Industrial & Household Cleaners
Formulates heavy-duty degreasers, spot removers and multipurpose cleaners due to strong solvency for oils and resins. -
Printing Inks & Graphic Arts
Applied in ink formulations to optimise drying profile, ink transfer and substrate wetting. -
Metal Cleaning & Surface Preparation
Used in metal-cleaning formulations and pre-treatment baths for removal of oils, adhesives and processing residues. -
Adhesives & Sealants
Serves as a solvent and viscosity modifier in solvent-borne adhesives, sealants and contact-cement systems. -
Textile & Leather Processing
Employed as a processing solvent and finishing aid for textile treatments, dyeing auxiliaries and leather finishing. -
Agrochemical Formulations
Used as a solvent or co-solvent in certain pesticide and adjuvant formulations where permitted by regulatory status. -
Specialty Chemical Intermediate & Solvent
Used as a processing solvent in fine-chemical manufacture and laboratory R&D for reactions and extractions requiring moderate polarity.
